Before the Brief

For finance leaders in Europe

See the seat before the search starts.

Many CFO and finance director roles are filled before they are ever advertised. Before the Brief watches the public signals that come first — a new CEO, a private-equity deal, an IPO plan, a refinancing, a finance leader moving on — and ranks the companies most likely to hire a CFO or Finance Director in the next three to six months. It also flags smaller companies about to open a board seat.

What we watch

Public sources only: company announcements, regulatory filings, stock-exchange notices and the business press. Every signal links to its source.

How it works

  1. We read the signals. Every morning we scan company announcements, filings and the European business press for the events that usually come before a senior finance hire or a board change.

  2. We score each company. Each signal adds points that fade over time. The total becomes a likelihood that a seat in your function opens in the next three to six months, weighted by company size, sector and how reachable the person who decides is.

  3. You get the list, and the first move. For each company: why it is on the list, the source, who decides and a concrete first step, so you can be in the conversation before a search firm is briefed.

Two tracks

Executive seats

CFO, Finance Director or VP Finance reporting to the CEO, at mid-sized companies in Europe: PE-backed platforms, scale-ups, family businesses, mid-caps.

Board seats

non-executive, supervisory and advisory seats at smaller companies (about €10M–€100M revenue) where an experienced finance leader can get noticed: new investors, board expansions, first independent directors, mandates ending, and boards that need audit-committee and financial expertise.

FAQ

How is this different from a job board or a recruiter?

Job boards show roles once they are advertised, and recruiters work for the employer once they are briefed. We show the companies where a seat is likely to open before either happens, so you can approach the person who decides first. We are not a recruitment agency, take no fees from employers and never contact companies on your behalf.

Which roles and regions do you cover?

Every C-level role, and the CEO seat itself. Lists go out today for seats in Europe, where most of the companies we track are in Portugal, Spain, France and the UK. The Middle East, Asia and the US are on a waiting list: request a sample anyway and we'll email you once we can build a good list for your region. If fewer than ten companies fit your role and region well, we'll send the ones that do and say so; if fewer than five do, we'll tell you honestly instead of sending a thin list.

Where does the data come from?

Public sources only: company announcements, regulatory filings, stock-exchange notices, investor news and the business press. Every signal links to its source so you can check it.

How accurate is the likelihood?

It is an estimate, not a promise. It weighs how strongly each kind of event tends to come before a senior hire in your function, how recent it is and the company's size. Treat it as a reason to look closer, then check the source.

Do you track individual people?

No. The radar works from company events — a new CEO, a deal, a funding round, an announced leadership change. We don't build profiles of individuals.

Which sectors?

Mid-sized companies across sectors: marketplaces and e-commerce, insurance, fintech and banking, software, industry, consumer goods, healthcare, mobility, media and retail.

Is my search confidential?

Yes. We never share who subscribes, and your profile is used only to build your list. Your profile is stored in Europe.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time, from the link in every email. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

Who is behind this?

An independent product built in Porto by a senior technology executive.
